Rising damp is water from the ground climbing up inside the wall, and it starts at the base of the wall. Condensation, on the other hand, is moisture in the air condensing on cold surfaces, and it usually appears around window edges and in ceiling corners. The remedies are different: rising damp requires injection, while condensation calls for ventilation.
