How can I tell if the damp on my wall is rising damp?

Typical signs of rising damp: damp staining from the base of the wall up to a height of 50-150 cm, white salt deposits on the plaster, blistering and peeling paint, and a musty odour. The damp level increases during rainy periods. If the moisture starts at the base of the wall and works its way upwards, it is most likely rising damp.
