DampStop is an injection-based waterproofing solution applied to stop rising damp and moisture in buildings. The guide below covers every step required to prepare and apply the system correctly.

Required Equipment and Materials

The following equipment and materials should be at hand for a successful application. It is important to clean the area and take safety precautions before starting.

  • Injection pump — low-pressure; for professional, fast application (optional).
  • Gun nozzle — flow-controlled; keeps material consumption in check.
  • 14 mm drill bit — for drilling the required holes in the wall.
  • Measuring jug — 1 litre, with 100 ml graduations; for an accurate mix.
  • Plastic funnel — for transferring the injection material easily.
  • Protective equipment — gloves, goggles, mask and clean water.

Preparation by Application Surface

On External Walls
  • If the internal screed concrete line blocks the level, it must be chased out to a width of 10–15 cm.
  • The aim is to let the injection reach down to the main slab concrete.
  • Any skirting boards must be removed.
On Internal Walls
  • Chasing out the screed is not required.
  • If present, removing only the skirting boards is sufficient.

Warning: Injection carried out without removing the screed concrete or skirting board prevents the material from reaching the required level and from fully stopping the damp from rising.

Plaster Removal and Damp-Proofing Plaster Application

The application sequence is critical, especially on walls built with hollow brick:

  1. 1The existing damp and deteriorated plaster is scraped off.
  2. 2Dryvatec HydroFix damp-proofing plaster is applied; it prevents the material from leaking out.
  3. 3Once the plaster has dried, the injection holes are drilled.
  4. 4The Dryvatec DampStop injection is applied.
  5. 5After application, the holes are sealed with plaster.

Note: If injection is done without scraping off the plaster, the brick cavities will open during scraping, so the material may seep out and the application will fail.

Preparing the Injection Material

5 L + 45 L = 50 L
DampStop is a concentrated product (mixing ratio 1 : 9). The 5 litres of concentrate in this drum, mixed with 45 litres of clean water, give a total of 50 litres of ready-to-use injection solution.

Important: The mix must be prepared in a clean plastic container, stirred until homogeneous and used immediately afterwards.

Material Consumption

Consumption is calculated based on wall thickness and length in metres. Example values (assuming 10 cm hole spacing and a wall of standard density):

On low-absorbency substrates such as aerated concrete and solid concrete, the material should be applied in several passes until saturation is reached. Remember that the product is a concentrate when ordering.

After application, the injection material inside the wall should be left for at least 48 hours.

Yes. If the wall is not coated with Dryvatec HydroFix damp-proofing plaster after injection, complete drying and insulation cannot be achieved.

Can I do the application on my own?

Yes, individual users can also carry out the application with the help of a funnel. For professional applications, controlled injection with a low-pressure pump is recommended.

On which walls should the screed concrete be chased out?

On internal walls facing external walls, the screed concrete should be chased out to a width of about 10–15 cm so the application reaches down to the main concrete floor. On internal partition walls, removing only the skirting board is sufficient.

How much of the product should I order?

The calculation is based on wall thickness and length in metres. For example, a 10 cm wall needs 1.5 L per metre and a 15 cm wall 2.25 L. 5 L of concentrate is enough for roughly 30–35 metres of a 10 cm wall.

Use and Safety Warnings

  • Always use gloves, goggles and a mask during application; avoid prolonged contact with the skin.
  • Never inhale or swallow the concentrate. In case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water and see a doctor if necessary.
  • Keep away from children and pets.
  • Use only clean water in the mix; dirty, hard or salty water reduces performance.
  • Close opened packaging airtight and store it in a dry, cool place.
  • Protect the product against freezing; frozen concentrate becomes unusable.
  • Ventilate the area well during application and do not work in direct sunlight.
  • First aid: Rinse the skin with soap and water and the eyes with plenty of water; seek medical assistance if necessary.
